Password & 2FA recovery

How to change your password, reset it if you forget it, and get back in if you lose the phone you use for two-factor sign-in.

Everyone

This page covers the three things that can lock you out: a password you want to change, a password you forgot, and a lost phone. Each one has a way back in. For everything else about your account, see Account preferences.

Change your password

When you know your current password and just want a new one, change it from inside Edmund. Go to Account preferences and open Change password. You enter your current password, then the new one, and save. You stay signed in.

Forgot your password

If you cannot sign in because you forgot your password, use the reset option on the sign-in page. Edmund sends a reset link to your email address; follow it to set a new password, then sign in with it.

Two-Factor Authentication and backup codes

If Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) is enabled on your account, signing in takes one extra entry: after your password you type a code from your authentication app.

When you first set up 2FA, Edmund shows you a set of backup codes. Each one lets you sign in once if you cannot get a code from your app — for example when your phone is missing, dead, or being replaced. Save them somewhere you can reach without your phone.

Warning

Backup codes are only shown when you set up 2FA. Store them somewhere secure and offline — a password manager or a locked drawer, not a sticky note on the panel. Anyone with a backup code can sign in as you, and you cannot view them again later.

Lost your phone

If you no longer have the phone that generates your sign-in codes, you can still get in with a backup code.

  1. On the sign-in page, enter your email and password as usual.

  2. When Edmund asks for your code, use one of your saved backup codes instead.

  3. Once you are signed in, open Account preferences and re-enrol 2FA with your new phone. This issues a fresh set of backup codes; save them.

If you have no backup codes left and no access to your phone, an administrator can help you regain access. See Account preferences for where to find your account settings and who to contact.
